Rainbow logos

my aim was to connect the imagery of a literal rainbow with a curling wave. these were some i did up real quick. using the same colors.
the last one was the shape of a foot with the "rainbow" inside . red and white is also related to ocean activities esp. diving.

please leave feedback. don't be afraid to say you hate it!

The Bad

http://www.bluefly.com/

Bluefly is an online shopping site selling fashion apparel and accessories for men and women. First of all the name and logo for the site is a FLY (the insect). This site is cluttered with information and images. A ton of text is too much for anyone to look at. There are advertisements that take up every space on the initial page and the navigation bar is tiny tucked up top. When you go deeper into the site it is just a normal generic layout with little design effort. Navigation become confusion when you want to see different categories of clothing. White and blue color scheme with normal text. Although the site is meant to be simple and would pass the confusing navigation really makes this site user unfriendly.

http://www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/

This site is a great resource for web designers. It purpose is to show common mistakes that beginners make. Some of the fundamental things they point out are Bad background choices and legibility of text. Although this class doesn't cover animation and other web design factors this site is a good thing to look at a review.

The Good

http://www.sony.com/index.php

Sony has a quick loading site that incorporates dynamic movement for its index
Clean look and good layout. Great interaction and animation on the buttons/links and very easy to navigate.
This site is very deep due to the company's production of a wide variety of products, entertainment, and services.
The color scheme and fonts work for the site and it all together conveys the style you would expect from a leading edge electronic company.

http://www.redbullusa.com/

I really like how the redbull site was done. Fairly simple with minimal initial text and when you hover the pop ups give you the supplemental info you need. A lot of video footage. Navigation is easy and accessible with a dedicated "contents" page. The gird layout is alright but the rest of the site makes up for it. Alternating color schemes stay true to the redbull branding and work well on the site. i like the silver gradient that gives the metallic look of the redbull can.

stair

enviromental

ideally, for these pieces i would have loved to have taken two elements from the posters and put them on opposing sides with the audience in the middle. For instance an example would be the bull and the fighter would be on opposite sides of a freeway underpass with the audience experiencing the space in between.

these are the sketches for Mexico i just had to scan them.

the concept was not to focus on landmarks but on the culture and the people of mexico.

these were for cancun. trying to capture the image of the place without unique persons was impossible so i cheated by showing the beach in the background. have to decide wether to go with the musician and stay with traditional culture or sell out to the bikini and the beach

All the images have elements of a flowing curve in form ( enforced by the cut ) reflecting the freedom of motion in the figures.
Live Mexico (possible slogan). They will be done in an impressionistic style with bright colors often used in mexican art and crafts.

i got this concept by looking at the agave cactus which is native to mexico and which is used to make tequila.
I made the shape of the actual country into a more organic plant shape.

hello

My name is Robin Akira McCormack and I'm in my last year at CSUN.
Although I have been fairly artistic since I  can remember, I started school with a business degree in mind.  That idea quickly came to an end when I realized business was not for me and that I could be creative and use my artistic ability to make money.   So far every class I take only heightens my love for graphic design and I hope by the end of this year I will have strong enough concepts and be skillful enough to get a good job as a designer.

This probably sounds lame but good design inspires me.  I love work that makes you think.  One of my favorite contemporary designers is Stephan Sagmeister. His concepts and the process in which they are executed are awesome.
Here are some examples of his work. Enjoy.
