MAC PAC

each one has a color tint in the black. these should appear black straight on but have a metalic like coating that shimmer that color in the light.

Panel Discussion

the event is a great way for emerging graphic designers to get an idea of what its like out.
The speakers are csun alumni having graduated only a year or two ago. we got to hear first hand what to expect (long hours) and what is expected (some of the work was amazing).
there were 3 speakers who did design for 3 almost completely different industries. It was good to see the variety of available work out there. there was Dominique who worked for an online digital pet website, another speaker was Theresa who did a lot of entertainment/ key art work. she had a really nice packaging piece for 007 Quantum of Solace. The best speaker there was Max from Hamagami & Carroll. His presentation was good because he showed us the process and the evolution of his designs from when he graduated to where he is now. He was very friendly and sociable and you could get a good depiction of how it is in the life as a designer. I wished the other speakers showed their work from school as well.
and of course the free pasta and salad was good.

conceptualizing: Irish Spring

i was going for shapes that were more masculine as well as easier to hold and use.
first was a representation of an axe head. i thought that shape would be really interesting.
second implies the shape of a gold brick without being obvious.
third was just a different shape i came up with but i don't think it will work.

logo. i wanted to abbreviate brand kind of like what treasure island did in vegas. they took an old name and image that was very specific and made it fresh and cool turning it into TI.
i think irish spring doesn't speak to the consumer like it did when it started. to capture peoples attention the brand must evolve into a hip cool brand that targets their audience.

feedback.... thanx

COMP style for apple software

logic is a music production software. i used the idea of sound waves, LPs, speakers, the rings concentrate the concept to the center while the outer rings disperse the "sound" out for others to hear.

Final Cut is an editing program. i used the wave shape from a film strip. i wan to show more motion than it looks like now. also the editing cuts are show in 3 levels with the longest being the final product (the bars also represent the interface of the program).

Aperture is a photo editing program. my concept was light. like a prism the camera take light in and captures and image/light to be spit back out. what you see is altered from the original image.

this is a very simple look. the logos and type aren't where i want them to be so please leave some feedback. thanx

LMU/aiga-emerge

went on 2/7 around 7:30.

LMU has a really nice campus and student gallery.  there was a lot of good, inspirational work there and it was good to see fellow students work there.  Congrats to Kim for winning the scholarship, she had a nice piece.

Asahi BEER

I've decided to go with Asahi beer for project 1.
They have 3 types of beer (can and bottle)

not much info on their site but it has a very hip, urban style to it unique to its main competitors Saporro and Kirin. the site reminds me of the scion marketing campaign and seems to be targeting 21- 30 year olds.

It would be interesting to convert this traditionally japanese brand into the "Party" beer

MAL

i went to whole foods and checked out some packaging that could easily be improved.
i tried to pick products that were not on other blogs.

i would eat these yams. . .         if the year was 1965!
this jar had really cool, honeycomb like texture to the glass and the lid also had the same pattern printed on it.   this wasn't as bad as some of the others but i think if the label was redone (more "organic" looking)  it could be really nice and would sell more.

sorry, more honey but this label looked so generic, so rectangle, so boring.

Bien Packaging

here are some links i think everyone should check out tons of great design, and great source of inspiration.

http://www.thedieline.com/blog/
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/06/02/beautiful-and-expressive-packaging-design/

these were a few of my favorite 3.

the display pencil is actually holing the package closed.  very well done. love the look and the materials.

this is a before and after.  very clean look. switched to glass which is suppose to be "greener".  maintain the brand identity while greatly improving the products appearance.  i would pay like 1.50 for the can and 3.00 easily for the bottle.
this last one is awesome. just look at it.
